We are Hummeltorp – an active part of the circular economy. Home / Abous us Our business concept With the environment and future generations in focus, we offer our customers a technically complete range of sustainable, circular, ecological and climate-smart products. Our products must always maintain a high quality, be environmentally smart and lead to long-term relationships - which reduces the use of non-renewable natural resources. We recycle excavated materials and create new quality products Hummeltorp is part of the growing circular economy, where materials and products are reused instead of discarded. Materials such as soil, gravel and sand are a limited resource. Recycling excavated and surplus materials is a cost-effective social benefit while reducing the burden on the environment. We start from untreated masses, clean and refine them in different stages and produce new materials for the construction sector that often have better properties than virgin materials. The secret is origin control, technical know-how, innovation, efficient routines and smart logistics. Our facility in southern Stockholm With years of development, we have succeeded in building an environmentally safe & scalable facility for all recycling of surplus materials from construction and natural disasters. Home / Our facility Every recycled ton of surplus materials reduces both unnecessary use of non-renewable natural resources and unnecessary landfills! World unique at the Grödinge facility • 96% recycling rate (99% diversion rate) • Completely environmentally safe facility with sealed surfaces/cells • Closed leachate & stormwater system with several different purification stages • Purification/recycling of nitrogen & phosphorus • Circular water system • Minimal groundwater extraction with purified leachate & stormwater • Climate-neutral mass handling • Multi-stage camera surveillance with AI • Heat energy recovery from hygienization • Electrification of the entire facility • 40-90% reduced climate footprint with climate-smart new transport logistic system • 95.5% carbon dioxide reduction in 5 years • 65% cleaner aggregate products, which reduces eutrophication of lakes, rivers and the Baltic Sea (society's second largest nitrogen leak) • 255,000 kWh green energy/year with energy recovery and solar panels • Environmentally safe multi-stage import control • Dynamic weight scales Other innovative/unique solutions Our facility Our business is built on two pillars. On the one hand, we accept a variety of surplus materials such as excavation materials, soil, stone, sand, clay, asphalt, concrete, stumps and horse manure, etc. In this way, we help our customers to run their businesses in a sustainable manner. On the one hand, we develop quality products from materials that can be reused in a number of different contexts. Such as many different soil products for crop cultivation, aggregates for construction, asphalt granules for new asphalt, road gravel for gravel roads, special materials for various sports, and more. In this way, we contribute to reducing the need to unnecessarily extract new non-renewable natural resources. We do it in a sustainable and climate-smart way with the least possible resource consumption and without fossil energy with a significant reduction in emissions. Overview Brown area Approximately 75,000 square meters of sealed area with collection. Intended for manure, compost and soils as well as a wet screening facility. Yellow area Approximately 40,000 square meters of sealed area for fertilizer and recycling of MKM, stumps, garbage and foundry sand, concrete and asphalt. Blue area Approximately 20,000 square meters of hard surface area for storage of finished products for unloading with collected daily sewage systems. Here we have crushing and arrangement of crushed material. Green area Approximately 60,000 square meters of completely sealed area with a rainwater collection system. Welcome to Hummeltorp Sweden AB A well managed family business for several generations Hummeltorp Sverige AB was founded in 1973 by Bengt Otterström, who at the time manufactured his own soil types for sale. In the 1990s, the company also began to accept receiving excavated material for recycling. Home / Our history 100 years of innovation and development On March 1, 2017, there was a generational change within the Otterström family and the company is now run by son Christer Otterström. Today, the company produces and sells the market's best growing garden and cultivation top soils, plant substrates, aggregates, circular ballast materials and newly developed special products. Reception of excavated materials has increased, is more nuanced and has a world-leading recycling rate. Hummeltorp strives to be at the forefront of its genre with the greatest focus on recycling all excavated materials 100% and thereby benefiting our nature and future with a natural climate-smart cycle. But our history goes back even further than that. Join us on our journey! 1920 Torbern Otterstrom (Christer's grandfather) a university-educated farmer runs Mörby farm in Haninge. There the foundations for our soil production are laid and new wetlands are created. His values of protecting nature and our soil are passed on to his children and grandchildren. 1934 - 1955 Bengt Otterstrom Torbern's eldest son grows up on the farm and graduates from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences as a farm manager. 1955 Bengt Otterström founds a company that innovatively Produces topsoil before, the topsoil was removed from fields (today prohibited) 1955 1956 Excavation of a bog and recreation of a lake Peat is used circularly for soil production 1957 OTTERSTRÖMS FARMING (Haulage & machine center) Receives significant assignments in the Stockholm region, e.g. Brunkebergsåsen (1958) The Yearling Link (1967) Hallunda (1970) Norsborg (1972) The Örby Trail (1972) 1959 Streamlining transport Stockholm's first haulage company to invest in more load-efficient trucks with "Bogie axle" 1972 Mälarturf Lawns Founded by Bengt Otterström & Kjell Eriksson.
